music mondays: lady gaga and madeon

I haven't done my Short Story Sundays and Music Mondays in awhile... well, because I've been busy barely keeping up with semi-regular outfit posts as well as trying to write some new pieces, but here's some ear candy! Gaga and Madeon are particularly relevant as I admittedly am a Little Monster and am seeing BOTH OF THEM this week! Madeon is opening for Gaga on her Born This Way Ball tour and I'm seeing him again this Saturday by himself! (A dear friend persuaded me to go to LA to see him, not that I needed much persuasion for a chance to see her, see Madeon, and visit LA again. Ahem.)

Lady Gaga — Monster (Computer Blue Remix)
"I asked my girlfriend if she'd seen you round before/ She mumbled something while we got down on the floor baby/ We might've f*cked not really sure, don't quite recall/ But something tells me that I've seen him, yeah..."

Oldie, but an infinite GOODIE. First of all, this is one of my stand-out tracks (though it's hard to pick just one) from The Fame Monster, that outrageously wonderful and forever favorite Gaga album. The deliciously dark and sexy lyrics appeals to a horror/supernatural lover like me, and this remix propels the original song to whole new wonderful electronic heights. The fast undercurrent of frenetic and snare drum-like beat, perfect amount of repetitious vocals... everything. I literally love everything about this. (Click here to listen on YouTube.)

Madeon — The City
"I can feel the heartbeat underneath the concrete/ Just like a kick drum plays/ Running in a straight line guided by the street lights/ Pushing the dark away..."
Listen to this. No seriously, just stop whatever you're doing and LISTEN. How can you not love this? This is a perfect equation made of equal parts awesome lyrics, an infectious beat, and amazing vocals courtesy of Zak Waters. What I truly love about eighteen year old wunderkind Madeon (Hugo Leclercq) is that he's an utter master of fusing electro and pop. "The City" is no exception and this power anthem is amazing. This track is simple yet effective; the short snippet of someone out of breath and the running feet and build-up of both the vocals and the beat really gets you going, as well as the "hiccuping" vocals that Madeon's become famous for in his music. (Click to listen on YouTube, and while you're at it, watch the music video!)
